![]() ![]() I picked up a hand held hotwire tool this winter and was able to use it on my seatback bulkheads. Very nice clean cut. It has a 6 inch wire for cutting and does a nice job of it. I'm planning on being on Chapter five by this time next week. We'll see. My boys (18 & 24) are showing some interest in the project (my wife ....... not so much ![]() I see that we have a new Long-EZ builder starting up. ![]()

![]() I hope that means that you are making the seat back bulkhead out of styrofoam ( polystyrene foam ) as this is the only foam that is safe to cut with a hot wire.

![]() It's 3#,DIVINYCELL from Wicks which is in the chapter 4 kit.
My understanding is that the urethane foam is the only one you can't cut with a hotwire. Am I wrong about that?

DC is PVC foam and does not give off the isocyanates that the Urethane foam does when burned.

![]() Marc, thanks for clearing that up. While it was not necessary to hotwire the pieces, it was an opportunity to try out the handheld 6" hotwire tool. I found it on a site for modelling foam. I think it's will show it full potential when it come to carving the nose.
Again, thanks for the feedback. While mis-information may seem funny......it is of no value to me. ![]() T Mann

As has been stated on all the mailing lists and fora, in the COZY, CSA and CP newsletters, and just about anywhere else that an interested person would care to research, neither the 205 or 206 hardeners are approved (or have ever BEEN approved) for structural use on any RAF derivative aircraft. ONLY the 209 hardener is approved, and it has a mix ratio of 3:1.

![]() yep - the 209 is da stuff all right, just used some last weekend to fix a chair i made my daughter.
It is the slowest of the west system and not nearly as slow as mgs slow. When I bought mine at the local boat repair shop - they thought i was nuts for wanting the sloooooooooooooooooow stuff. I use it for woodworking, when i needs long assembly time. Will also use it for filling. I think i would send it back and ask for them to pay shipping
