Default Tire Recommendations

What are the recommendations for plys on tires? I went to order new Shin 11x4x5 tires at Wicks and find the 8 ply are a only $2 more than the 6 ply! I've heard 8 ply is overkill but then what are the drawbacks to that?
Does anyone have experience with very very slow leaks that don't show up in the valve? I'm guessing a new tube is in order to be sure.
Would appreciate, as always, the input from experienced flyers out there.
Thank you,
Dave

to my knowledge - they just came out with tubes that do not leak, within the last coupla years

I use 6 ply Michlin from JD at infinityaerospace.com. I replaced the tubes last year and the new ones were the "never leak" kind. They do go down a little - maybe 5 lb in 3 months - but nothing like the old ones did.

I have used both 6 and 8 ply and did not see a difference. remember this is a 6 or 8 ply rating which is relative to what I do not know. cut the 6 ply open and only found 2 plys. 8 ply rated has 4 plys. the tubes used for the Chin shin are not avalible in the no leak type. the new no leak tubes are only avalible for the certified aircraft tires. so if you are using the smaller non certified 11x4x5 you need to check the pressure often

What if they gave me choice between a fast computer or a fast plane?
