Default Yet another Thielert diesel down

Hi,

Today our flying club's diesel-C172 OH-CAU made a successful forced landing to a highway because of engine problems on the Thielert Centurion 1.7 diesel. Symptoms sounded about the same than formerly on the Diamond DA-40D, overload clutch possibly started sliding which led to partial loss of power to the propeller (seems to be a common problem on Thielert diesels).

Nobody injured and the plane is in repairable condition.

Link to an article in Finnish:
http://www.iltalehti.fi/uutiset/2007...52396_uu.shtml

This highway is the only possible place for forced landing when approaching Helsinki-Malmi from east via Deger
(no fields, just trees and rocks).

You need to change your signature again, suggest:

UPL + JAA-PPL(A) with NF & RT/E. Flying WT9-Dynamic & TL-96 Star (If I want to fly without burning avgas somebody has to fix the Diesel Cessna or the Diamond DA-40TDI)

Thielerts are pretty popular here and I hadn't heard of any problems, could it be something in the water

It is actually a bit strange with two incidents from the same club... clutches?

Are the pilots pushing/pulling the throttles to fast, putting to much stress on the clutch/gearbox?

I have about 30 hours in da40/da42 now, once during single engine training, I got no more than 80% on the running engine. Apart from that I have only experienced minor problems with the Diamonds.

I guess this post will soon dissapear but anyway: CU at another canardforum soon
