Default Wire Marking

The easy, dependable and inexpensive way.

This machine works - from john aka Waiter

O, The way we do this in the military is to engrave a unique wire identification number on each wire. This takes a special machine, one of which myself and Dust (Cozy IV builder) just acquired.

1) Basically, the machine "burns" inked text very lightly into the wire insulation to form a permanent, non alterable ID. The machine is a& mechanical beast. It has a built in heater to heat up the text wheels, it has ten wheels with the full alphanumeric and some punctuation. An adjustable timer pneumatically lowers the hot wheels for a preset time interval (1/2 second typical)

2) The Machine accommodates wires down to about 18 gauge, anything smaller than that, and a shrinkable sleeve is placed over the wire, and the sleeve is embossed. The photo shows a 22 gauge wire with a white shrink tube and the word WAITER 21 embossed.
i bought john out - he was done with it - for 150 bucks - machine costs him and anyone who wishes to use it $50.00 bucks

good stuff

Default Re: Wire Marking

Dust - I checked out your wire marking maching and saw examples of its imprinting of each wire's use on the wire's cover. (To All: Go to Waiter's web site... http://iflyez.com/ ... and click on the "Retrofits" option on the left and page back in time to about April 2006???). It is a truly a NEAT solution to the lifetime problems of intallation, maintenence, troubleshooting, and any upgrading projects - after you think: 'Its Done!'.

HOWEVER... The use of this machine solution only fits the problem of new plane builders or major wiring make-over mavens (e.g. ripping out the steam gages and intalling a new glass panel).

For those of us not wanting/needing to rip everthing out and labeling bundles of new wiring going in, here is a more simple way to label the wires already in place or just the wires on a new gizmo being added to the plane... Cable/Wire Labels from CyberGuys.com [ http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/S...label&sort=rev (or http://tinyurl.com/3bnpep) ]. Also check out the selection of Cable/Wire Ties and Wraps to keep long runs of wiring neat and manageable [ http://www.cyberguys.com/templates/S...+ties&sort=rev (or http://tinyurl.com/ys5lzs )].

CyberGuys is a trusted source of computer accessories, components, parts, tools, etc. Consider going to their home page and signing up for their FREE monthly 150 page catalog. But, use caution, its contents have been known to be addicting to some.
