Default Possible canard down in Findley, OH?

http://www.thecourier.com/Issues/200...8,Sep ,04&c=n

The article describes the plane as an experimental two seater w/ a RotaMax rotary engine that is mounted in the back. Thankfully, the pilot was able to get out ok, but it sounds like the plane has had a tough time.

Pilot's name is 'Barak Mowery', in case anyone knows him.

Sadler Vampire that I know about (http://www.lightsportaircraft.ca/uss...aftengine.html) has twin tail booms with vertical tails on the booms and the horizontal tail between the vertical tails. The engine is a pusher behind the wing and forward of the tails.. So, not a canard.

I am interested to hear about why the Rotamax engine stopped running. Their folks at OSH treated me like I was an idiot when I asked how they validated the gear reduction drive for torsional vibration modes...

Whoops! I missed the aircraft model in the article! As a rotary builder myself, I'm also interested in the specific powerplant failure here, especially if it is something that could be avoided in a different rotary install.

Probably tried to baffle you with bullsh*! instead of dazzle you with brilliance.

I noticed the RotoMax is about 100 lbs lighter than a Lycoming. Three rotors might be the ticket for another 50 hp.

Seems we've got a date with a plastic vacuum NACA scoop maker soon. See you at R.R. Billski?

Thread drift!

I am sorry, I don't keep up very well. I just looked at Rough River's website, so I am only slightly less ignorant than I was.

First, I am not even a canardian. I own part of a Cherokee. My homebuilt project is fiberglass, but it has the engine in front and the horizontal tail in the back. Wouldn't I have to be at least a canard builder? Yeah, we will all be talking fiberglass building and rotary engines and fuel systems and stuff...

I suppose that flying in on Saturday am and returning Sunday pm could work, if anyone is interested in sharing the ride from Ann Arbor...

I missed the silicone mold session because of a minor household emergency, and I do need to make that up to Dust.

More soon.

Hah!! You'd be in good company down there. I believe many of those guys there haven't even started or never will and only looking. Dust brought down a couple guys in a Bonanza in 2004. There's even a few RV flyers (the canardian nemisis in fun humor) that come.

I'd fly with you but maybe next year. Maybe you can get Dust to fly for the day with you. Eh Dust?
