Default landing lights on the nose gear

I was thinking of mounting my landing/taxi lights in my nose gear and want to know if it's possible. Need a larger door and don't want to think of obstruction. Need to think of a nice door close setup probably a bit different than the screen door spring?

I think it could be done, but I think it would be tricky to do well. You could bolt a light to either side of the nose gear about half way down. This won't interfer with the gear doors. Don't want them too low to the ground anyway. The problem is that the gear is at an angle to the ground, so the lights would have to be angled also. This would make them difficult to make flush when the gear is retracted. Also, they'd be subject to vibration and landing impact there. Another reason not to do this is the need for landing / recognition lights without lowering the gear when cruising in heavy traffic areas. Canards have a habit of sneaking up quickly on unsuspecting spam cans who cant see them coming. You'd need additional recognition lights anyway.

Ask Randi to show you our doors in her picturebook, its an adaptation of Carl Denk's great design, same as used to close the tailwheel door on the Thunder Mustangs.
