Thumbs up Under its own power.....

Went to the hangar after work today and messed around with my left brake which was not working properly. One of the internal allen head bolts did not seat right, so I fixed/tightened it, checked eveything else in there and put it back together.

THEN, I cranked up my rotary, let it run a couple of minutes, released the now working brakes and TAXI'ED AROUND THE AIRPORTS HANGARS RAMP for the first time.. Really, really KEWL. Turned to the right, turned to the left, circled to the right, circled to the left, went straight.......and turned on a dime

Today was my Friday, so that means I get to spend the next two days at the hangar. Progress made. Life is good.

All the best,

Chris

Jany didn't know how to get the video on my phone to function, however, she did get some shots with our old Mavica camera of some of our taxi testing tonight.

We are still having some issues, but we are working on them. The idle is pretty dang high at 2500 - 3000 rmp. I can't seem to get it down yet. We can't find any air leaks in the intake.....maybe timing since we havn't modified anything here and it was initially set just to get it started.

Also, we are loosing some oil in the PSRU center spleen. Dave is much better at tech discriptions and will hopefully find the time to post about 'em.

Anyway, we were still able to taxi around like a big propeller pushed go-cart. Great fun.

Here are the pix.

All the best,

Chris

Been a bit nervous to take it too high so only about 5000 rpm (ish) and only for a short period. However, I still have a lot of throttle to go. I started to auto tune the other day and got about 1/3 of the way through but shut down since I was concerned about the temperature getting too high.

It seemed to be idleing at about 1700 rpm yeserday which is still high from what I have read from you. Don't yet understand the variances.

We dropped the pan and pulled the engine on the hoist to redue the seal. We installed gaskets on both sides of the mounting plate and applied Gray RTV gasket sealer. I am concerned that the rtv started to set before we got it all back together and may still be a problem. We shall see.

I also changed to a higher pressure (27-29) radiator cap per your and Buly's suggestions. No slam of Buly, but I am saddened to hear of Buly's new choice.

I have also been playing around with the IVO prop. Wow, it actually changes the rpm's.....gee, can you tell that I have never flown an adjustable pitch prop

All the best,

Chris

I'd be surprised if you get much over 5500 on full fine, Chris. You'll probably find that the remaining throttle movement has litte effect until you get some speed up.

I may try to see what I can get it up to on the morrow. Still concerned about the high idle, which I guess may be adding to the higer temps....if not the high idle and I could get it down in the high 100's it could idle on the ramp longer....but I suppose it is all part of the process.

Thanks.

All the best,

Chris

If it's running at 1500 it must be getting enough air for that rpm. Has to be a sticky (not closed) throttle or manifold leak.
