Default Forum apology, past and future

Members and Lurkers, three years ago I decided to open a new forum that would not censor Ideas but would control negative activity. I invited John Slade to open up the new forum with me.

One of the first acts of the corporation was to sponsor this forum under Mike Skorija (Dust's) direction so that anyone can ask anything and expect to get a straight answer without fear of embarrassment or ridicule. We both had enough of the power struggles and authoritarian attitudes elsewhere, so Canard Aviation Inc. bought the server space and Mike bought the Vbulletin software. There will be no bickering and back-biting on this forum. Negative posts will simply be deleted. Light-hearted teasing and snide remarks are, however, par for the course, so try not to be offended by them.

Of the people I've come across during the past five years, Mike is one of the few that gets it. These mail-lists, forums and archives are not about power, ownership, control and copyright - they're about communication of information, helping those with less knowledge than yourself have as much fun as you're having, furthering the growth of the canard type, and, most of all, they're about camaraderie.

.....

Welcome to the Canard Aviation Forum, and welcome to the world of composite aircraft construction. For those who are new to this, you're going to have more fun than you can possibly imagine. For those who've been part of the community for a while, "enjoy the build". For those who are still dreaming, I have three words for you. Take action now.

Regards,
John Slade
We failed our mission, we not only did not delete out or otherwise remove personal attacks, we even stooped to making them. There is no valid excuse for this behavior, all that i can do about it is apologize and move on.

Over the next few weeks and months we will develop rules and procedures.

Posts will not be edited, but they will be copied, PM'd to the offending poster and deleted. They can then choose to edit out the offending text or not. Repeat offenders will be banned for successively longer periods.

Please do not force admins and mods to have to do this, it is a very distasteful thing to have to do.

Now lets build airplanes and as always

Who are the administrators of this forum? Is this the same forum that it was last week?

Well, you've already deleted my post asking why we can't just ignore you.
Since nothing has changed this bookmark is history. Enjoy your new "reality"...

Unfortunately John and I have split our ways. This is not the same forum as the prior one had become, it is a kinder, gentler forum for all.

As I said below, we set out with a mission that he outlined in the second post on the prior forum and lost our way.

I will not lose my way again.

Moderators are needed, all those interested, PM me.

Look, if you want a place to complain about the new/old/original mission kinder gentler forum, find somewhere else.

The complaint department is closed. That silliness will be deleted

Lets build planes

I'm still a mod here. My timezone is offset 12 hours from everyone else so it's works well to help delete spam and respond quicker.

I think the new "No-Edit" policy should satisfy almost everyone. Even before, I almost never flexed my mod rights outside of spam deletion.

Now on to building my plane.

If you want any future posts deleted, then don't make them.

If you are worried about anyone else creating an account with your user name and making posts, then don't delete your account and just don't post anymore.

See, it was quite easy.

But don't expect the admins to keep a list of posters to delete, that's just not right.

I supported the split from canardzone, but this further split is a pathetic discrace.
You wankers need to have a long hard look at yourselves.

Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears;
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interred with their bones;
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious:
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answer'd it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest -
For Brutus is an honourable man;
So are they all, all honourable men -
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause:
What cause withholds you then, to mourn for him?
O judgment! thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason. Bear with me;
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.

Yeah, all you 'Wankers'. You're all a 'disgrace' to the community.
Uh, no4. Which ones are the 'Wankers'?
Are they the ones that can't spell?

How do we tell the 'Wankers' from the 'Wankelers'?
no4, is it possible that you're really a 'Wanker' working undercover?

That's it! More spies on board. You can't trust a one of them I tell you!

Default Forum apology, past and future

Having been in a time warp for the last few years
I come back to find forums fragmented...
Perhaps I have a different perspective.

Been there, now here and here are my thoughts...

All composite canards trace their lineage to Burt's designs

So all then and now are either of His design or are MODIFICATIONS

When a poster starts their question with,"Now please don't shoot me, but I have a thought and a question"...

What does that say about the forum...
To me it is quite clear that they fear persecution and ridicule that they have seen or been a part of.....

A forum has lost it's way when Characters and The self righteous attack and make small the members who venture to participate...

When a builder calls a design holy, and the final product it does so denying the very fact that the design they speak of clearly are/were modifications of the previous aircraft....

The closest example I see outside this community is the americans who themselves are a result of their parents migrating to this great land. Tell all those who desire to join this melting pot that they are americans and the foreigners should just get the h## out. Laughable irony

Caution those plowing new ground to be careful
Bring to light the things that they might be right to consider
Respect their question and idea as you have come from one yourself
Above all remember that "golden rule"
Get over yourself if you think you are all that... your still just one of us!

There is no such thing as a stupid question
Every idea deserves respect and it day to be considered.

Let the minds add to the discussion...

If we change this forum lets change this....
We embrace change
We are change
Here you can discuss it
Here we will evaluate the idea
We will add data and bring many brains to the idea
Big arms now, come one come all
We honor our heritage by considering their path
And following their example...

Burt, ignored convention and created a legacy....
Burt, ignored the convention, and sent Mike to the edge of space
In a space craft that was unique to understate the obvious.

It is this spirit that we should follow on this forum....

It appears you are preaching to a non-listening audience like the Congressmen do. Sad but true. Should have posted this a yeart ago.

My sorrow comes from the idea that all the real worthy minds to listen to are still going email or on yahoo groups. The forums are so much easier to view and only a few take advantage of it. Most of its members unfortunately are non-builders or flyers (which leads to so many non-canard discussions). I've had a lot of great discussions and arguments on this forum but never though of permanently leaving just because of some argumentative or condescending people. Like there's none in other groups. Even Church has its icons and jackasses. Now to raise a serious technical question I have to email it. How boring. At least here if Dust comes up with an idea I agree the he receives praise. If he comes up with a dumb idea or opinion I bash him and expect a phone call. A week later after much research and argument he submits. It all works out great now.
