Default Fess up when you Flock up!

Well here's a good example of the value of this forum and the members there of (some of which we like and other....well, not so much. )

I was swapping PM with ChaisingMars the other night and he mentioned that he was hardshelling his fuse sides prior to doing his lay-ups. I couldn't stop thinking about that. Why would you hardshell poly-U. What I've read in my plans is that you don't do it.

Well that is correct, but to add to that, you don't use poly-U on the fuselage sides either.

When I started ordering my parts, I ordered all of my foam at once. As I sorted through it, I used the descriptions in Wick's online catalog to help me identify what was what. Under the text for my F100-040 foam it says:
Useful in making the fuselage, ....
and I labeled it as such. WRONG!

The plans call out for H45 (which is identical to the foam that ChaisingMars is using in his build.) I had mislabelled my foam as chapter 4 vs chapter 13 (nose.)

The point is that there is a lot of mistakes caught in (what on the surface seems to be) idle conversation here. This is the second time this forum has saved my bacon. The first being the West ships with the educational kit, is printed in the educational text but is not good for what we are doing!

That was caught by Marc & Lynn. A seemingly innocent line of text that kept gnawing at both of them until it was brought to my attention. I still can't believe that ACS did that in a composite education kit.

Okay, yeah, I'm eating some crow here and I could have just shutup about it and nobody would be the wiser...........but the mistakes we make are every bit as important as the innovations we conjure up!

My hat is off the the forum and all!

(....and no, that is NOT a crow on my's a purple martin!)

Many of us have websites that point out "lessons learned" by chapter. Grant it, many are Cozy websites, and I don't know of any Cozy website that would have warned you of the particular issue since Cozies don't use much urethane foam for building the tub.

Just future advice. Most Cozy building steps are one-for-one or close, kissing cousins to the Long EZ plans.
