q: how can you tell when spring has arrived in Seattle?

a: it's light gray and raining, instead of dark gray and raining.

We seem to have skipped Spring and are straight into Summer. Blue skies, girls in summer frocks and dusty roads. We are expecting the worst fire season since 1983 (which included widespread duststorms and an event known as "Ash Wednesday"). We have been in drought for a decade.

But I have flying booked this afternoon so the cloud is on the deck and it is pissing down
