![]() but they work. the attach is designed to hold them on with minimum load on the fasteners. the load is over a larger surface of the thin skin and most cases the attach points where put in a finished wing.

![]() Wouldn't the strongest place to mount them be just outboard of the wing/strake joint? I think on a cozy that would clear the gear as well?
The further out you go the more they will effect roll rates, right? ...Chrissi

![]() Sure. But breaking a wooden prop would hardly keep the gear from contacting the bottom of the wing.

![]() your right that would be a good joke if I were kidding, but i am not. this has happened. I have seen both a cozy 3 and a long eze with wheel marks on the bottom of the wing. one hit the prop and the other did not. remember the plane is still flying when the wheels hit. if the wheels hit hard and the plane is flying high enough to keep the prop from hitting the wheels will bounce up off the ground and hit the wing.

![]() I would imagine one has to plan for all contingencies though, and I guess that is one of them so the jokes on me.. ![]() Somebody should let Gary Hunter know this 'cuz my pods from him clearly locate the connection points right at the junction between strake and wing on the wing proper...so he isn't thinking rubberband gear hoops are supposed to be on the possibles list of incidents. Dang, If your hoop gear can withstand that kind of punishment and live to work another day....thats an amazing thing. I would say that that was tantamount to thrashing the bird...& was way beyond a nose gear-up incident. YOW!!!

![]() Well, I'm re-locating the landing lights on my plane to the end of the strakes. Not wanting more complexity to a dropping compartment light and don't want to go back and punch holes in the bottom of my finished fuse, I decided this was a good alternative. I started digging out foam then remembered the baggage pods.
Not getting too deep in another project I ignored the details and assumed they were mounted on the strake ends - wrong! They're mounted on the wing root after reading this thread and going to other's websites. The beginning of this thread Dust tells about a possible better placement after watching a video on the aerodynics of the AR5. So I looked it up but I'm not finding any information and I watched the whole video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HOVBcUDuD4 |
