That's one of the things that really surprised me. Here we all are talking up the price advantages of Automotive conversions, and then you see the price tag of the latest Egenfeller H6 setup (admittedly it is a complete FWF package, but still ) of $20K+ it certainly makes you think twice about it all.

Don't discount auto engines in AC. I have an AC engine in my E Racer, but all the systems feeding the engine are not Lycoming. Twin Electronic egnition, Twin electric fuel pumps, FAST programable electronic fuel injection, vortech supercharger, all automotive, but the engine knows nothing of what is supplying the Fuel ,spark, manifold pressure and timing, and if all systems are correct , it will perform perfectly. Jonh hit it right on the nose, All of these engines will perform very well, it's the systems that manage the engine is what will take time to develope. There has been tremendous progress in the last year or two and I believe the solution to the problems is in the very near future. It took me 5 years of development and perfect my lycoming AC engine to accept these changes in the ing.-fuel-and manifold pressure I was looking for but dedication and persistance did prevail. After all this time, I think I have all my ducks in a row and My AC is flying better than ever before.

Currently on barnstormers:

0-320-E2A 218TTSN 0STOH $14,300
0-320 1950 TTSN $3000
IO-360 OSMOH $19,900
0-320-D3G OTSMOH $15,000
0-320-E2D 700SMOH $7,000
0-320-E2D 1635SMOH $7,500
There's also a an unreliable "Lycosaurus" 0-360 with 2512 hours for $8,750

Buying a used AC engine and swapping it out when the time comes seems to be as economically advantagious as the alternative engine that keeps you on the ground.

Marb- The reason I asked about the Ls1 was because you listed it in the above graph as the engine of your choice- I am sorry I was just feelin you out- but I suspected it was really NOT your engine of choice anymore. Which brings me to my point.
I think this graph above should be set aside and a new one dated so that everybody can reenter their engine dcision. I know I changed mine, from a year ago when I first started my plane.I am pretty sure There are others. I have always wondered if the huge # of rotary choosers were there becuse its often thought of as a cheap powerplant[it aint if done right] or what. Maybe the rotary users could be divided into ..1. tracy cook type pre worked systems, or,...2. own planned rebuild systems, or,...3. renesis users... as well as a seperate slot for XP360/390, or,.. Titan o360, or Barrett o390 Lycoming types.
What Choo all be thinkin ??

Well... if I can escape from SC long enough to make it up to Oshkosh EAA 2006 and catch the Cozy forum on the 12" stretch with the IO-540, maybe the LS1 will be my first choice for the Cozy!

Hmmm... 6" wider, 12" longer... can I still call it a Cozy?

What the heck, reset the poll. Keep record of the old voting to see changes.

BTW, I'm sticking with the Lyc until the Rotary is plug and play.

If you redo the poll, add Superior, Titan, etc.
